24 hour solstice hike

Life aid beneath the Glacier

24 hour solstice and fund raising hike 22-23 June

This year we have a new version of the solstice hike through the Snæfellsjökull national park. We walk in the tracks of the giant Báður Snæfellsás and collect pledges for funding to the local rescue team Lífsbjörg which safeguards the people in the area, including those in the many small boats who are fishing these days along the coast beneath the Glacier. The hike stars at Dritvík where Bárður landed on his voyage from Norway some hundred years ago and we end our journey 24 hours later in the lane (Tröð) at Hellissandur.

The hike will be quite a cultural event because the local people will be showing up with a wealth of stories almost all the way. The wonders of nature, the history and the mystique of the bright night will be present as will Lífsbjörg, the rescue team which will be ensuring the safety of the hikers. Restaurants and tour operators in the area will also support the event with good nutrition and voluntary work.

The check-in time is:

22 June, at 9:30 am. at Hotel Hellissandur and departure from there with bus 10:00 am. The hike starts at noon from Dritvík.

Participation fee: 25.500 is.kr.

Included: Bus fare, guides, safety guards, food supplies at 5 stops, equipment for the glacier, professional foot massage, swimming pool Lýsuhóll, illustrated t-shirt and diploma. The first 30 early birds catch a 15% discount card from Intersport (valid 2013).
