Balance is our motto which expresses itself in our efforts to:
- Organize our tours in close cooperation with those we visit.
- Travel without compromising nature, local culture, environment or safety.
- Highlight local history and cultural heritage.
- Stimulate a fertile interaction between guests and hosts.
These efforts includes eco-tourism, something which really matters to us. "Eco-tourism is enriching nature and cultural experiences, facilitated by responsible tourism businesses to care for their people, the environment and the communities they are part of." A definition from TIES. (The International Eco-tourism Society) - We look at the Scandinavian eco-tourism as a role model and seek to be certified as an eco-tourism business, become a member of TIES and have a good cooperation with EPSD. (Environmental Partnership for Sustainable Development).
Tours
We have planned 3, 5 and 6 day tours, with food and lodging, where we get a glimpse of how the refugees, the rulers and their loot (slaves and bond maids) have spent their lives since they left their fatherland and went to the out-west 1000 years ago. We head to the dales and fjords (West Iceland), where among others The Saga of the People of Laxardal, one of the most famous Islands-sagas, took place.
How we travel
We hike, bike, ride or paddle. As a rule we are followed by a car or boat carrying our equipment. - We can arrange bicycles and kayaks for rental, if not included, but the best is to bring your own if there is a chance to do that. - Overnight lodging in tents with wood-burning stove as a possibility. Those who prefer to sleep with a roof over their heads often have an opportunity to do that.
Guides
Typically the couple Jon Joel Einarsson and Maggy Magnusdottir, both experienced outdoor enthusiasts whose roots are in the community. They have a deep expertise, gained through long experience of outdoor life and a good knowledge of nature and culture. In other words; a wealth of values they want to share with others.
