Happy first day of Summer! - Sumardagurinn fyrsti

Today is the Icelandic first day of Summer, also know as Sumardagurinn fyrsti. This day, celebrated every year on the first Thursday after the 18th of April, traditionally marks the start of the Summer season. It dates from the 9th century, when Iceland used the old Norse calendar that had only two seasons: Winter, and Summer. The first day of Summer was celebrated after the long winter to welcome the longer and warmer days ahead.

Nowadays, it's a national holiday, celebrated with parades and other activities and children usually receive a summer gift.

We are very excited for the upcoming season and we look forward to plety of hikes and adventures on Snæfellsjökull glacier and other corners of Iceland!
